On Sunday, September 17, 2023, a gathering activity to welcome new student namely Hello New Students event for odd class 2023 was held by Master in Phytopathology Study Program. This event was carried out by student association, Ikatan Mahasiswa Fitopatologi (IMF), for every new admission of the year. This year, it was performed in the canteen hall of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. Lectures and students from various year intake, 2021 – 2023, cheerfully participated the gathering. This activity aims to welcome new students to Master in Phytopathology study program and increase the sense of kinship among family members of the study program.
Master in Phytopathology Guest Lecture activity was held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in the Venture Room (AGLC-6th Floor) of the Faculty of Agriculture at 09.00-10.30 WIB. The presentation of Guest Lecture material on the topic ‘Inducing Disease Resistance by Abiotic Stress’ was delivered by Prof. Tatsuo Sato, the Director of the Center for International Field Agriculture Research and Education, College of Agriculture, Ibaraki University.
This event was carried out using a hybrid system, namely offline and online, via the Zoom meeting platform which was open to the public and attended by postgraduate students from the UGM Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, lecturers, and alumni. Guest lectures aim to expand students’ knowledge through direct experience carried out by resource persons. Guest lecture activities are very beneficial for students, lecturers, and the general public because they gain new insight into research carried out by researchers in their home countries so that they can serve as inspiration or examples for controlling plant diseases. Apart from that, guest lecture activities can also create relationships or collaboration between UGM and Ibaraki University.
On Thursday, August 10, 2023, several students and lecturers of Master in Phytopathology, Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University participated in community service activities as one of the community service programs from the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. This activity was carried out in Minggir District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta by providing education regarding plant pests and diseases for farmers.
This community service activity was participated actively by farmers group in Minggir District, Sleman Regency. Through this activity, both the Department members and the community share knowledge and experience related to agriculture, especially in plant protection. Students also learn how to communicate and contribute directly to community.
Lecturers and some students from Master in Phytopathology Study Program, Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada took part in the XXVII Scientific Seminar and Congress of the Indonesian Phytopathological Association (PFI) at the University of Lampung on 26-30 July 2023. This scientific seminar and XXVII Congress carried the theme ” Modern Plant Pathology for Sustainable Agriculture.”
This event contains several activities, including scientific seminars, discussions, and determining the host of the Indonesian Phytopathology Association congress in the next period, as well as field trips for the participants. This association is a professional association participated by all phytopathologist in Indonesia. Lecturers of Master in Phytopathology are active members in this association since once it was established. This year, Prof. Ir. Achmadi Priyatmojo, M.Sc., Ph.D. is the Secretary General of PFI, and Ani Widiastuti, S.P., M.P., Ph.D. is the chair of association chapter Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang.
