
The Field Practicum of Plant Pest Science (IHT) x Plant Protection Training (PLANTING) 2026 was a collaborative academic and skill-development program organized by the Scientific Department of the Plant Pest and Disease Student Association (IMHPT). Carrying the theme “Gebrak Hama: Action for Horticultural Insect Pest Control”, the program aimed to enhance students’ understanding and abilities in identifying, observing, monitoring, and controlling insect pests on various horticultural crops through direct field practice. Held in Widoro, Bangunharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, the activity provided students with practical learning experiences guided by the speaker Amir Mahmud, S.P., M.Si., with academic supervision from Dr. Prayogo Probo Asmoro, S.P., M.Si. and Dr. M. Iqbal Maulana, S.Hut., M.Sc. The series of activities included observing pest attack symptoms, monitoring pest populations, practicing pest control using insecticides and herbicides, horticultural seedling cultivation, and insect photography documentation as a learning medium. Through this activity, students were able to broaden their knowledge of insect diversity while improving their field skills to support academic activities and competency development in the field of plant protection.

The Department of Plant Pests and Diseases (HPT), Universitas Gadjah Mada, will organize a Guest Lecture addressing a current issue in academia, namely the use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing. The lecture, titled “Scientific Writing using Artificial Intelligence (AI): Techniques, Tools, Ethics, and Scientific Integrity,” will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30 WIB in a hybrid format—offline at Classroom 8, AGLC Building, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, and online via Zoom Meeting.

The Department of Plant Protection (HPT), Universitas Gadjah Mada, will organize a guest lecture featuring an international speaker to share academic insights. This session will cover the topic “Creating Insight from Literature: A Guide to Writing Influential Review Papers”, focusing on strategies and techniques for writing high-quality and impactful scientific review articles. The event will be conducted online via Zoom Meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30 WIB.
The guest lecture will feature Dr. Muhammad Syamsu Rizaludin, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Microbial Ecology, The Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), as the main speaker. In his presentation, he will share experiences and practical guidance on transforming scientific literature into informative, critical, and impactful written work that contributes to the advancement of knowledge. This event is open to the public, providing opportunities for students and academics from various backgrounds to participate.

The Department of Plant Protection (HPT), Universitas Gadjah Mada, will hold an international guest lecture to support learning in the Introduction to Agricultural Nematology course. The event will feature Dr. Mark G. Sterken, Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Nematology, Wageningen University and Research, as the main speaker. The lecture will be conducted online via Zoom Meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 19:00 to 21:00 WIB. Participants will explore the topic Management of the Potato Cyst Nematode (Globodera spp.) in the Netherlands. This lecture is mandatory for students enrolled in the Agricultural Nematology course and is expected to provide comprehensive insights into potato cyst nematode management from an international perspective.
