The Master in Phytopathology Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a Laboratory Socialization activity on 30th August 2025 as part of the academic orientation for new students in the 2024/2025 odd semester. The event aimed to introduce students to the laboratory facilities, research opportunities, and safety procedures that will support their studies and research activities throughout the program.
During the session, lecturers and laboratory staff provided an overview of the different laboratories under the Department of Plant Protection, including facilities for mycology, bacteriology, virology, nematology, and molecular plant pathology. Each laboratory head explained the available equipment, research focus, and potential topics for thesis work, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the program’s research ecosystem.
The socialization also emphasized the importance of laboratory safety, discipline, and collaboration in creating a conducive research environment. Senior students shared their experiences working on various projects, encouraging newcomers to actively engage in research, publications, and academic discussions.
Through this activity, the Master in Phytopathology Program ensures that new students are well-prepared to utilize laboratory resources effectively and responsibly. The event reflects the program’s commitment to fostering high-quality research, innovation, and academic excellence in the field of plant pathology.
