Thesis

In order to assist students in their graduate thesis research and writing, particularly with regard to the substance of the research and writing, a thesis supervisor will be assigned individually for each student, taking into account the lecturer’s competence on the thesis topic. Students are intensively guided by 2 supervisors during the process. The thesis supervisor will be selected by the Head of the Study Program from permanent lecturers at the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada with a specialty in phytopathology, or permanent lecturers at Universitas Gadjah Mada. Students who wish to undertake thesis writing in a semester must first ensure that they must input Thesis in their Study Plan for the related semester and has passed or currently taking “Graduate Seminar” in the same semester s/he wishes to write a thesis.

Thesis Flowchart

  • Research Proposal Seminar

Before applying for Thesis, a student shall meet the following requirements:

  1. A student shall take courses of “Graduate Seminar” and “Thesis” in his/her Study Plan (KRS).
  2. If eligible, students shall submit application form (Thesis Proposal Form) and download presence form (Presence Form). Study Program will invite students to determine the proposed thesis topics to be consulted with all lecturers under Study Program, the Head of Study Program will appoint a thesis supervisor that has expertise with the topic apply by student; The chosen topic is based on the research focus and strategy developed by the Department of Plant Protection.
  3. Having been appointed a thesis supervisor, students consult with their thesis supervisor and deliver their intention to write a thesis under the supervision of the lecturer. At this stage, the supervisor is authorized to adjust the proposed topic, if necessary.
  4. Having been approved a thesis topic by their supervisors. Thesis supervision will commence as soon as students submit their Thesis Proposal. Students should consult their proposal to s/he supervisors.
  5. Having been approved by the supervisor for their research proposal.
  • Comprehensive Defense

Before applying for Comprehensive Defense, a student shall meet the following requirements:

  1. Minimum GPA 3.00.
  2. Having a score of academic potential test PAPs UGM/TPDA PLTI/TPA BAPPENAS (min. 450).
  3. Having a score of AcEPT UGM (min. 149)/TOEP PLTI (min. 401 (31))/IELTS (min. 4.0)/iBT TOEFL (min. 30)/ITP TOEFL (min. 400).
  4. Having been approved by the supervisor for their Comprehensive Defense.
  5. Students shall register to academic secretariat and download application form (Comprehensive Defense Form). Academic secretariat will invite examiners to join in Comprehensive Defense.
  6. Submitting three printed copies of research proposal to the academic secretariat.
  7. Comprehensive defense is held by a panel of examiners, comprising of one lecturer being the Chief Examiner, and two lecturers as Member Examiners; Prior to defense, students must prepare a presentation (preferably, MS Powerpoint slides), and dress with proper attire.
  • Thesis Seminar

Before applying for Thesis Seminar, a student shall meet the following requirements:

  1. Having been take Research Proposal Seminar.
  2. Having been take “Comprehensive Defense”.
  3. Having been approved by the supervisor for their Thesis Seminar.
  4. Students shall register to academic secretariat (Thesis Seminar Form) and download presence form (Presence Form).
  5. Submitting a printed copies of thesis to the supervisors.
  6. Having been approved a thesis by their supervisors. Thesis supervision will commence as soon as students submit their Thesis. Students should consult their thesis to s/he supervisors.
  • Thesis Defense

Before applying for Thesis Defense, a student shall meet the following requirements:

  1. Having been take “Thesis Seminar”.
  2. Having been approved by the head of study program for s/he submitted article in a journal.
  3. Students shall register to academic secretariat.
  4. Submitting documents for Thesis Defense.
  5. Having been approved a thesis by their supervisors. Thesis supervision will commence as soon as students submit their Thesis. Students should consult their thesis to s/he supervisors.
  6. Thesis defense is held by a panel of examiners, comprising of one lecturer being the Chief Examiner, and two lecturers as Member Examiners; Prior to defense, students must prepare a presentation (preferably, MS Powerpoint slides), and dress with proper attire.
  • Judicium

Before applying for judicium, a student shall meet the following requirements:

  1. Having been take “Thesis Defense”.
  2. Having been approved by the supervisor for their judicium.
  3. Students shall register to academic secretariat.
  4. Submitting documents for Judicium, upload all documents in SIMASTER.
  5. Students must dress with proper attire (a white shirt top, black pants or skirts).

GRADUATION

  1. Upload Thesis to University
    Upload the Thesis PDF file independently via the Simaster or unggah.etd.ugm.ac.id page based on Rector’s Decrees No. 2/UN1.P/KPT/HUKOR/2022. (template)
  2. Filling in Personal Data
    Students fill in their personal data after verification.
  3. TPA/TOEFL Verification
    Students wait for TPA and TOEFL verification by the University a maximum of 1×24 hours.
  4. Upload TPA/TOEFL
    Students upload scans of TPA and TOEFL certificates through Simaster.
  5. Upload Thesis to Faculty
    Upload the Thesis PDF file via http://ugm.id/karyafaperta to the FAPERTA library and get a free letter from the library.
