UGM Phytopathology Students Participate National Seminar on Agricultural Research at UGM

September 21, 2024, Phytopathology Masters students contributed as speakers in the National Seminar on Agricultural Research Results. This National Seminar was one of the agendas of the 78th Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture, UGM.

Master of Phytopathology Student Belinda Winona as Presenter in The 9th University Consortium Graduate Forum

On July 17-18th 2024, Master of Phytopathology student Belinda Winona participated as a presenter in The 9th University Consortium Graduate Forum. This activity is part of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) University Consortium with the main organizer, namely the Faculty of Animal Science, and supporting organizers, namely the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM. This activity is included in the international scale because, in addition to being attended by several graduate students who became presenters from several faculties at UGM, many students from various universities in other countries were also involved as presenters, namely from the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. The purpose of this activity is to broaden the horizons of global issues, especially in emerging academic and scientific fields, and also to build international collaborations and networks, where students can connect with academics, researchers, and students from various countries, opening up opportunities for exchange of ideas and joint research. Through this opportunity, students can also improve their communication, presentation, and foreign language skills, which are crucial in the academic and professional world. This activity serves as a platform to encourage the development of innovation through cross-cultural discussions, as well as provide motivation for students to continue their studies or research to a higher level. Guest Lecture: Introduction to RNA Sequencing in Collaboration With Genetika Science

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the Master of Phytopathology study program held a guest lecture with Yonadita Pramesti, Field Application Specialist from Genetic Science as the speaker.

In this class, we learn about RNA sequencing including its workflow, factors to consider when designing research on RNA sequencing, and applications of RNA sequencing in various fields. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) is a technology used to understand the transcriptome of an organism, which is a complete collection of RNA transcripts produced by the genome under certain conditions. read more

Community Service Activity: From Pathogen Free Seeds Cultivating Healthy Shallot

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, students and lecturers of the Master of Phytopathology carried out activities together with the Rukun Lestari Young Farmers Group in Semuten Hamlet, Jatimulyo Village, Dlingo District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta.

In this activity, students, lecturers, and farmer groups cultivated shallots from True Shallot Seed (TSS) to produce healthy shallots using seeds that are free from pathogens, so that they can increase the quantity and quality of shallot products.

ACIAR Project: Research Meeting and Project Field Visit

On April 29-30th 2024, Dr. Stephen Harper as project leader of ACIAR Project: Crop health and nutrient management of shallot-chilli-rice cropping systems in coastal Indonesia, had a visit to Indonesia for research meeting progress and field visit in Yogyakarta. Students in Master of Phytopathology are actively engaged in International research collaboration. The next day, Stephen, Lecturer, and Students involved visited UGM and BRIN research farm UGM dan BRIN.

This visit is a routine activity to ensure the progress of collaborative research process runs with good coordination between the parties involved. read more
