Nematology Training Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada

To enhance knowledge and competence in the field of nematology, PT Agri Makmur Pertiwi assigned one of its staff members, Mr. Hasbi, S.P., M.Sc., to participate in a nematology training program conducted over two days, on 14–15 January 2026, at the Nematology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The training activities were supervised and guided directly by lecturers in the field of nematology from the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Siwi Indarti, M.P. and Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Maulana, S.Hut., M.Sc., assisted by Ms. Tiara Indah Wahyuni, S.P., M.Sc. The training materials and activities covered fundamental concepts as well as advanced practical applications in nematology. read more

PT Agri Makmur Pertiwi Tingkatkan Kompetensi Staf melalui Pelatihan Nematologi di UGM

Dalam rangka meningkatkan pengetahuan dalam bidang nematologi, PT Agri Makmur Pertiwi menugaskan salah satu staff yaitu sdr. Hasbi S. P., M. Sc untuk mengikuti pelatihan nematologi yang dilaksanakan selama dua hari yaitu pada tanggal 14-15 Januari 2026 di Laboratorium Nematologi, Departemen Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Kegiatan pelatihan nematologi dibimbing dan didampingi langsung oleh dosen bidang nematologi Departemen Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan yaitu yaitu Prof. Dr. Ir. Siwi Indarti, M.P. dan Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Maulana, S.Hut., M.Sc. serta asisten yaitu sdr Tiara Indah Wahyuni S.P., M.Sc. Materi dan kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi konsep dasar hingga praktik lanjutan nematologi. Hari pertama difokuskan pada pemahaman dasar nematoda, meliputi pengertian, peran penting nematoda dalam ekosistem pertanian, morfologi, anatomi, klasifikasi, identifikasi, siklus hidup, reproduksi, bioekologi, serta interaksinya dengan organisme lain. Kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan pembahasan pengelolaan nematoda penting, khususnya OPTK A1, serta materi dan praktik berbagai metode ekstraksi dan isolasi nematoda, seperti metode Baermann Funnel, Whitehead Tray, maserasi, sentrifugasi, elutriasi, mist chamber, hingga ekstraksi sista dari tanah kering dan basah. read more

Enhancement of Fungal Identification Competency through Mycology Training at UGM

To improve knowledge in the field of mycology, PT Agri Makmur Pertiwi assigned two staff members, Mr. Hasby, S.P., M.P. and Ms. Agistha Melyndasari, S.Tr.P., to participate in a mycology training program conducted at the Clinical Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, located in Building A2A, 3rd Floor. The fungal training was held over two days, on Monday–Tuesday, 12–13 January 2026.

The training activities began with an opening session led by the Head of the Department, followed by a coffee break. The first day’s material started with a discussion on fungal classification systems delivered by Dr. Suryanti, S.P., M.P., followed by a presentation on fungal morphological characteristics, particularly Fusarium, including Fusarium graminearum which is synonymous with Gibberella zeae, by Dr. Ir. Arif Wibowo, M.Agr.Sc. After a break, participants attended a session on and practiced seed-borne fungal detection using blotter and agar methods on maize seeds, as well as techniques for isolating Fusarium fungi from plant material and soil, guided by Dr. Suryanti, S.P., M.P. Strengthening Regional Capacity in Late Blight Research: AsiaBlight Training 2025

Universitas Gadjah Mada continues to strengthen its contribution to regional and international plant pathology research through active participation in global scientific initiatives. Prof. Ani Widiastuti, S.P., M.P., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Master of Phytopathology Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada, took part in the Asia Blight Training on Molecular-Based Mating Type and Fungicide Sensitivity of Phytophthora infestans, held in Yanqing, Beijing, from 30 October to 3 November 2025.

The training program brought together 14 regional representatives from 14 Asian countries, including Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Thailand, India, China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Laos. This diverse participation created a collaborative platform for researchers to exchange knowledge, share regional experiences, and strengthen scientific networks in addressing late blight disease, one of the most destructive plant diseases affecting major food crops worldwide. read more

UGM Phytopathology Students Selected for Sakura Science Program 2025 at Ibaraki University

Universitas Gadjah Mada proudly announces that Rizku Laily Shiami and Asih Widyaningrum, students of the Master of Phytopathology Program, have been selected to participate in the Sakura Science Program 2025, hosted by Ibaraki University, Japan, from 4 to 15 November 2025. Their selection represents a significant academic achievement and reflects UGM’s continued commitment to strengthening international collaboration in agricultural and plant protection sciences.

The Sakura Science Program is a prestigious international exchange initiative designed to promote scientific cooperation and capacity building among young researchers. This year’s program is conducted under the theme “New Approaches to Disease Control in Tropical Crops,” bringing together emerging scientists from Indonesia and Japan to explore innovative strategies for managing plant diseases in tropical and subtropical agroecosystems. read more
