SURABAYA, 19–20 September 2026 — Students from the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), achieved notable results at the 2026 Airlangga University Karate Cup II, organized by Universitas Airlangga on Saturday–Sunday, 19–20 September 2026. The national karate championship was held at GOR CLS Kertajaya, Surabaya, and brought together 48 contingents with approximately 879 participants from universities and dojo branches.
The championship featured two divisions, namely the general and university student divisions, with competitions in both kata and kumite categories. Universitas Gadjah Mada was represented by 22 athletes from its Karate Student Activity Unit (UKM Karate UGM), competing across various open and university student categories.
The UGM contingent secured an overall achievement of 6 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals. The results marked a positive achievement for UKM Karate UGM in a national-level competition that brought together athletes from various universities and dojo branches.
Among the UGM athletes, Athifah Rahmadhani, an undergraduate student of the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, from the 2023 cohort, achieved a gold medal in the Women’s Senior Kumite -55 kg category. She also secured a bronze medal in the Women’s University Team Kumite category.
Another achievement was contributed by Zafira Nayla Mumtaz, an undergraduate student of the Plant Protection Study Program from the 2025 cohort. Nayla won a gold medal in the Women’s Individual University Kata category.
The achievements of Athifah and Nayla demonstrate that students of Plant Protection at UGM are actively developing their potential beyond academic activities and achieving excellence in sports. Their accomplishments also contribute to representing and promoting Universitas Gadjah Mada at the national level.
The achievements of the UGM contingent at the 2026 Airlangga University Karate Cup II reflect the dedication and hard work of the members of UKM Karate UGM. These accomplishments are expected to motivate the athletes to continue improving their skills, maintaining their competitive spirit, and pursuing even greater achievements in future competitions.
